| Traffic Restrictions Begin Wednesday on Route 41 for Bridge Replacement and Intersection Improvements Simmontown Road to be detoured as part of project in Chester & Lancaster counties 10/16/2009-KING OF PRUSSIA Construction begins Wednesday (October 21) on a project to replace the Route 41 bridge over Pine Creek in West Sadsbury Township, Chester County and Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced. Traffic along Route 41 will be maintained with one lane in each direction using lane shifts between Pine Creek and Zook roads beginning Wednesday morning (Oct. 21). Crews will rebuild the northbound side of the bridge, using the southbound lane and shoulder as the two open travel lanes. The new traffic pattern is planned to continue through late December. Additionally, beginning Wednesday, Simmontown Road will be closed and detoured between Route 41 and Sadsbury Lane through late December for crews to widen the intersection of Simmontown Road and Route 41 and add left turn lanes. Through traffic will be detoured to follow Route 41 and Strasburg Road. At later dates during the project, there will be detours of Zook Road and Sadsbury Avenue, also to add turn lanes at the intersections with Route 41. Under this project, an existing 24 foot-long concrete T-beam bridge over the Pine Creek will be replaced with a 65-foot long precast concrete box beam structure. Route 41 will be widened from two 11-foot wide lanes to three 11-foot wide lanes, including a continuous center turn lane. The intersections with Simmontown Road and Zook Road will be widened to include dedicated left turn lanes. The work is weather dependent. The general contractor on the $3,892,294 project is Reading Materials, Inc. of Skippack, Pa. The work is expected to be completed in October 2010. |
